Real Timber Character With Engineered Strength.

Our Australian Hardwood range features genuine native timber species like Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, and Brushbox over a precision-engineered multi-layer core. Each plank has a 3mm real timber veneer with a 5G click-lock system for fast, seamless installation. These are the same iconic Australian species used in high-end homes and architectural projects - now available in an engineered format that's more stable, more sustainable, and easier to install than solid hardwood.

Common Questions Before You Order.

Where is engineered timber flooring best suited?

Engineered timber works beautifully in living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas, hallways, and home offices. The real timber top layer adds warmth and sophistication to any space. It's ideal for open-plan living where you want a seamless, premium floor that ties everything together. It's also a strong choice for heritage homes or spaces where genuine timber character matters. We don't recommend it for wet areas like bathrooms or laundries - SPC hybrid is the better pick there.

How does engineered timber feel compared to solid hardwood?

In terms of look and feel underfoot, engineered timber is virtually identical to solid hardwood. The top layer is real timber, so you get the same natural warmth, grain, and texture. The multi-layer core underneath actually gives it better dimensional stability than solid timber, meaning it's less likely to expand, contract, or cup with temperature and humidity changes. Most people can't tell the difference once it's laid.

Does engineered timber need underlay?

It depends on the installation method. If you're floating the floor (click-lock or tongue-and-groove over a subfloor), you'll typically need a separate underlay to provide cushioning, moisture protection, and sound dampening. If you're gluing it directly to a concrete slab or existing subfloor, underlay isn't needed. We can advise on the best approach for your specific subfloor situation.

Stop Overthinking It, Here's Why Engineered Timber Is Worth It.

You've probably gone back and forth between solid hardwood, laminate, hybrid, and engineered timber. Here's the simple truth: engineered timber gives you the authentic beauty and warmth of real wood with better stability, easier installation, and a price that makes sense for the space you're covering. It's the flooring architects and designers spec on premium residential projects, and it's what we recommend when you want floors that genuinely impress.

The multi-layer core underneath actually gives it better dimensional stability than solid timber, meaning it's less likely to expand, contract, or cup with temperature and humidity changes. Does engineered timber need underlay?

It depends on the installation method. If you're floating the floor over a subfloor, you'll typically need a separate underlay for cushioning, moisture protection, and sound dampening. If you're gluing directly to a concrete slab or existing subfloor, underlay isn't needed. We can advise on the best approach for your specific subfloor situation.

Is engineered timber waterproof?

Not fully waterproof like SPC hybrid, but engineered timber handles moisture far better than solid hardwood. The multi-layer core resists expansion and contraction from humidity changes, so it won't cup or buckle under normal conditions. It's fine for kitchens where spills get wiped up quickly, but we don't recommend it for bathrooms, laundries, or any room where standing water is likely. For wet areas, our SPC hybrid range is the better option.

Can I install engineered timber myself?

Yes, if you choose a click-lock or tongue-and-groove engineered timber, it's a very manageable DIY project. The planks lock together without glue or nails, and you can float the floor over most clean, level subfloors. Glue-down installation is also an option but usually suits experienced installers. You'll need basic tools - tape measure, spacers, tapping block, and a saw for end cuts. Most confident DIYers can handle a standard room in a day.

What's the difference between engineered timber and SPC hybrid?

The biggest difference is the surface - engineered timber has a real timber top layer that gives you genuine wood grain, warmth, and character. SPC hybrid uses a printed vinyl layer over a stone polymer core. SPC is fully waterproof and more scratch-resistant, making it ideal for wet areas and high-traffic family homes. Engineered timber delivers a more premium look and feel, and it can be sanded and refinished over its lifetime. If authenticity matters most, go engineered. If durability and water resistance are the priority, go SPC.

How do I look after engineered timber floors?

Regular sweeping or vacuuming keeps grit off the surface, which is the main thing that causes micro-scratches over time. Damp mop with warm water and a pH-neutral timber floor cleaner when needed. Avoid steam mops, excessive water, and harsh chemical cleaners. Use felt pads under furniture legs and mats at entry points. With basic care, engineered timber floors can last decades and still look beautiful. If the surface wears over time, many engineered timbers can be lightly sanded and refinished to bring them back to life.

How much flooring should I order?

Measure each room's length and width in metres, multiply to get the total square metreage, and add 10% on top for waste. That 10% covers cuts around doorways, edges, and any odd angles in your layout. Australian hardwood planks come in generous widths, so waste can vary slightly depending on room shape. If you're not sure, send us your room dimensions and we'll calculate exactly what you need - we do this every day and we'll make sure you don't over-order or run short.
