Which wood look floor is right for me?

It comes down to the room and how you live. Hybrid is the best all rounder: water resistant, tough and easy to lay. Laminate gives you the most floor for the money in dry rooms. Engineered timber is real wood on top for the most natural look and feel. Glue down vinyl is the one for bathrooms and wet areas. Our side by side guide compares them properly.

Is wood look flooring water resistant?

Hybrid and vinyl have a stone composite or vinyl core that will not swell from spills or mopping, so they suit kitchens and laundries. Laminate handles splashes but not standing water. Floating floors should never go in bathrooms, so for wet areas we only recommend glue down vinyl, which has no floating joins for water to get under.

Which wood look is the most timeless?

Natural light to medium tones age best. Oak and blackbutt suit almost any style and make rooms feel bigger, and Australian species like spotted gum bring warmth and character. Very grey or very dark floors date faster and show dust and scratches more.

How much plank variation should I choose?

Low variation planks look calm, clean and modern, and suit smaller rooms and minimalist homes. High variation planks, where every board is a little different, look more like real timber and hide everyday wear well. If you cannot decide, order one of each as samples and lay them side by side.

Is it good with dogs and kids?

Yes. Our hybrid and laminate floors have a hard wearing, scratch resistant surface built for busy homes, and hybrid also shrugs off spills and accidents. A mid tone with some grain variation hides marks best. See our pet friendly flooring.

Most of our floors click together as a floating floor over most existing flat surfaces, with no glue or nails, so a handy DIYer can do a room in a day. Every order comes with our installation guide and our step by step guides cover everything from subfloor prep to trims.

Our hybrid floors have an acoustic underlay already attached, so you lay them straight down. Laminate and engineered timber need an underlay underneath, which you can add from our underlay range. Glue down vinyl is stuck straight to the subfloor.

How much flooring do I need?

Measure the length and width of each room in metres, multiply them, add the rooms together and add about 10% for cuts. Every product page turns your square metres into the exact number of boxes. Our measuring guide shows how to handle hallways and odd shapes.

Can I see it before I buy?

Yes, and we recommend it. Order up to three free samples, large enough to see the real colour and grain in your own light, with flat $10 delivery Australia wide.
