A minimum of three quotes from different installers. This gives you a reliable range and helps identify outliers (unusually high or suspiciously low). If all three are within 10–15% of each other, you have a good sense of the market rate.

Buying supply-only from Hippo Floors and hiring a separate installer is almost always cheaper than buying a bundled package from a retail store. You get better product pricing (no retail markup) and can shop around independently for installation. Most installers are happy to install customer-supplied flooring.

10–20% deposit is standard and reasonable. The balance should be payable on completion (or in stages for large projects). Never pay more than 50% upfront, and never pay the full amount before the job is finished and inspected.

Use a long straight edge (a 2-metre spirit level works) to check for dips and humps. Variations of more than 3mm over 3 metres need levelling. For concrete, check for moisture with a simple plastic sheet test (tape a 1m² sheet to the floor for 24 hours — if moisture collects underneath, you need a vapour barrier).

The warranty covers manufacturing faults including peeling, delamination, excessive wear, discolouration not caused by UV exposure, and structural defects in the click-lock system. It does not cover damage from improper installation, neglect, flooding, or accidents. We also comply with Australian Consumer Law, which provides additional statutory protections.
