Description

The Pacific Spotted Gum SPC Herringbone 9.5mm takes the beloved Australian Spotted Gum aesthetic and elevates it with a classic herringbone pattern. Warm golden browns and natural variation create a floor with depth, movement and unmistakable character.

Every board features a fully waterproof SPC core with 2mm IXPE underlay attached for comfort and noise reduction. This floor is designed for the whole house, including wet areas like kitchens, bathrooms and laundries. The rigid core will not swell, buckle or warp under any moisture conditions.

Thanks to the click lock joining system, this herringbone floor installs without glue or nails. The 630 x 126mm boards click together in a floating herringbone pattern over concrete, timber or tile subfloors. Tough, scratch resistant and easy to clean. 16 boards per box at 1.43 sqm coverage.

The Statement Floor That's Built to Last.

If you want a floor that turns heads the moment someone walks in, herringbone is it. Our 9.5mm Herringbone SPC range combines the timeless elegance of a classic pattern with the toughness of a stone polymer composite core. It's 100% waterproof at the core, scratch-resistant, and clicks together without glue — so you get that high-end designer look without the high-end price tag or maintenance. Whether it's a living room, hallway, or open-plan kitchen, herringbone adds depth and character that a standard plank layout simply can't match. Available in a range of colours from rich warm timbers to modern cool tones.

Before Choosing Herringbone.

Is herringbone SPC harder to install than standard planks?

Yes, herringbone is significantly more complex to install than a standard plank layout. It uses the same click-lock system with no glue or nails, but the precision required to get the pattern straight and symmetrical is on another level. You need to establish a centre line, work outward in both directions, and every cut along the edges is angled, which leaves very little room for error. For that reason, we strongly recommend using a professional installer for herringbone. It's not a job you want to attempt as a weekend DIY project. If you're in Brisbane, our partnered installers have plenty of experience laying herringbone and will make sure it's done right.

Does herringbone SPC flooring cost more than standard planks?

The product itself isn't much more than our standard 9.5mm SPC range, the real difference is in installation. Herringbone takes considerably longer to lay and demands a much higher level of skill, so expect installation costs to be roughly double what you'd pay for a standard plank layout. That's the part that catches people off guard. The extra labour covers the precision of the pattern, the angled perimeter cuts, and the additional waste (we recommend 15% for herringbone vs 10% for standard). Even with the higher install cost factored in, it's still well under what you'd pay for real timber parquetry, and you get a floor that's waterproof and maintenance-free on top of it.

What rooms suit herringbone flooring best?

Herringbone works in just about any room, but it really shines in spaces where the floor is the hero, living rooms, hallways, entryways, and open-plan dining areas. The pattern naturally draws the eye and makes a room feel longer or wider depending on the direction you lay it. It's also a popular choice for home offices and master bedrooms where you want that extra touch of style. Because it's SPC, you can run it into kitchens, bathrooms, and laundries too, just wipe up spills promptly and make sure your subfloor is dry before installation.

Why Herringbone SPC Is Replacing Traditional Timber Parquetry.

Traditional timber herringbone looks incredible, but it comes with a hefty price tag, ongoing maintenance, and zero tolerance for moisture. SPC herringbone gives you the same striking pattern with a waterproof core, pre-attached underlay, and a click-lock install that doesn't need sanding, staining, or recoating. It's the modern way to get a classic look without the compromise.

How does herringbone SPC compare to timber parquetry on price?

Real timber parquetry can easily cost two to three times more per square metre than SPC herringbone and that's before you factor in the glue-down installation, professional labour, and ongoing maintenance like sanding and recoating every few years. SPC herringbone installs as a floating floor with no adhesive, comes with underlay pre-attached, and needs nothing more than a sweep and damp mop to keep it looking sharp. When you compare the total cost of ownership over five to ten years, SPC herringbone is the clear winner for anyone who wants the look without the lifetime of upkeep.

Is herringbone SPC harder to install than standard planks?

It takes a bit more planning, but it's absolutely doable as a DIY project. Herringbone uses the same click-lock system as standard SPC, no glue or nails needed. The key difference is the layout: you'll need to establish a centre line and work outward to keep the pattern symmetrical. Edge cuts take more time due to the angles, but the result is well worth the extra effort. If you're in Brisbane and want it done by a pro, our partnered installers lay herringbone regularly.

Does herringbone SPC flooring cost more than standard planks?

The product itself isn't much more than our standard 9.5mm SPC range. The real difference is in installation.

Herringbone works in just about any room, but it really shines in spaces where the floor is the hero. Living rooms, hallways, entryways, and open-plan dining areas are where you'll get the most impact. The pattern naturally draws the eye and makes a room feel longer or wider depending on the direction it's laid. It's also a popular choice for home offices and master bedrooms where you want that extra touch of style. Because it's SPC, you can run it into kitchens, bathrooms, and laundries too. Just wipe up spills promptly and make sure your subfloor is dry before installation.

How much waste should I allow for herringbone?

We recommend 15% waste for herringbone layouts, compared to the standard 10% for straight plank installations. The angled cuts along walls and doorways produce more offcuts that can't be reused. Send us your room measurements and we'll calculate the exact quantity you need, including the waste allowance, so you don't end up short on install day.

Does herringbone SPC come with underlay?

Yes, every plank in our 9.5mm Herringbone SPC range comes with IXPE underlay pre-attached. There's no need to purchase or lay separate underlay. The built-in backing provides cushioning, improves acoustics, and helps smooth out minor subfloor irregularities. It's ready to go straight out of the box.

Is herringbone SPC waterproof?

SPC flooring is waterproof at its core. The stone polymer composite won't swell, warp, or buckle the way timber or laminate will, so you can confidently install it in kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, and other moisture-prone areas. However, while the planks themselves are waterproof, water that sits in the joints or seeps up from the subfloor over time can cause damage. Make sure your subfloor is completely dry before installation and wipe up any spills as they happen. A little common sense goes a long way and your SPC floor will look great for years.

Does the herringbone pattern make a room look bigger?

It can, depending on the direction you lay it. Herringbone naturally draws the eye along the pattern, which creates a sense of movement and depth. Laid lengthways down a hallway, it makes the space feel longer. In an open-plan area, it adds visual interest without overwhelming the room. It's one of the reasons designers keep coming back to this pattern. It works in both compact and large spaces.

How do I clean and maintain herringbone SPC?

Same as any SPC floor. Regular sweeping or vacuuming to keep grit off the surface, and a damp mop with warm water for a deeper clean. No special products needed. Avoid steam mops and harsh chemical cleaners as they can affect the wear layer over time. The herringbone pattern doesn't require any extra maintenance compared to standard planks.
