About this floor.

Ash Grey is a soft, light-toned 12mm laminate — a tough, hard-wearing floor that's one of the most scratch-resistant options in our range. It's water resistant for up to 72 hours and clicks together as a floating floor over a separate underlay. A smart-value pick for bedrooms, living rooms and high-traffic homes, 1.91 m² per box, backed by a 25-year residential warranty.

Flooring guide

Why choose laminate flooring.+

Laminate is the most affordable way to get a convincing timber look across a whole house. Ours is a 12mm board with an AC4 rated wear layer, which is the commercial grade, so it stands up to hallways, kids and chairs on wheels. The thicker board feels solid and quiet underfoot, and the click system means it floats over your existing floor with no glue.

Where it differs from hybrid is water. Modern laminate like this has a sealed, low absorption core and a dense surface, so splashes and mopping are fine, but standing water left for hours will eventually find a join. If a room sees regular wet feet or a laundry overflow, hybrid is the safer pick. Everywhere else, laminate gives you the most floor for the money.

Why choose the 12mm laminate range.+

A 12mm laminate is at the thick end of what is sold in Australia, and it shows underfoot: the board is quiet, rigid and feels closer to timber than the 7 and 8mm laminates in the big chains. The AC4 wear layer is the commercial grade, the surface has a four side micro bevel so each plank reads as a separate board, and water absorption tests at 0.10 percent, which is why mopping is no problem.

Planks are 1216 by 197mm and a box covers 1.91m². Pick this range when you want a timber look across several rooms at the lowest cost per square metre we offer, and the rooms are dry. For laundries and anywhere water pools, move to hybrid.

Where laminate works best.+

Bedrooms, living rooms, home offices, hallways and stairs. The AC4 surface makes it a strong choice for high traffic areas and homes with pets, and at 12mm it bridges small dips in an older subfloor better than thinner floors. It is also a favourite for investment properties where the budget has to stretch across every room.

Keep it out of bathrooms, laundries and anywhere water pools. Kitchens are fine with a mat at the sink and spills wiped up, but if the kitchen is open to a laundry or back door, hybrid will give you more margin for error.

Laying it and looking after it.+

Laminate needs an underlay beneath it, unlike our hybrid which has one attached. A 2mm foam or foil underlay evens out the subfloor, dampens sound and adds a moisture barrier over concrete. From there it is the same click together method as hybrid: acclimatise, leave an expansion gap, stagger the joins, trim with scotia.

Clean with a dry mop or vacuum for grit and a lightly damp mop for marks. Never flood it, never steam it. Felt pads on furniture and a rug at the entry do most of the work.
